Modern art has found a new home at the KMSKA. Across seven themes, discover how artists radically rethought colour, form and ideas. They embraced abstraction, raw spontaneity, dreams and mystery, or the freedom of pop art and conceptual art. Together, these perspectives reveal modern art as it emerged in Antwerp, Brussels and across the world.

Curator Adriaan Gonnissen guides you through the new display, explaining why these works have been brought together and the connections between them. Along the way, you will encounter highlights such as Juliette Roche’s dancing figures around a fountain in New York and Oscar Jespers’ De kapmantel, carved directly from stone.

Gustave Van de Woestyne shows you that not everything is quite as it seems, while Evelyne Axell breaks through pop art’s sound barrier. Paul Delvaux stages a danse macabre of skeletons on Golgotha, and Frank Stella draws your gaze in with an optical tunnel effect. Marthe Donas also takes her rightful place, and she is not to be missed.
