KMSKA In Full Bloom

PRESS RELEASE 21 April 2026
An extraordinary encounter between contemporary floral art and the museum collection.

From 30 April to 10 May 2026, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp (KMSKA) presents the exhibition In Full Bloom. For eleven days, contemporary floral art and masterpieces from the museum collection will engage in a fascinating dialogue. Fifteen florists drew inspiration from a specific artwork or a special space in the museum. The result: an extraordinary cross-pollination between flowers and images, translated into unique, temporary installations.

Fifteen Belgian floral artists, including Marc Colle (Baltimore), Thierry Boutemy, Nele Ost, Annelies Vansant and landscape architect Erik Dhont, were given the freedom to develop a personal interpretation of a work of art or a space within the museum. Their installations range from abstract forms to opulent compositions, placing works by artists including Oskar Kokoschka, Lucio Fontana, Vincent van Gogh, Yves Klein and Anish Kapoor in a new context.

In In Full Bloom, an interplay of attraction and tension emerges between flowers and artworks. Sometimes they create a harmonious unity, sometimes they clash. It is precisely in this interplay that a new layer emerges, prompting you to see things differently.

Art with a scent

The exhibition plays a defiant game with themes such as transience and eternity. The fleeting beauty of flowers contrasts with the enduring presence of paintings and sculptures. Fragility and monumentality engage in a fascinating dialogue, resulting in a stimulating overall experience.

With In Full Bloom, we are highlighting our ambition to make art accessible to a broad and diverse audience in innovative ways. By displaying floral art within the historic walls of the KMSKA, we are challenging the traditional museum experience. Visitors discover our collection through a new, fresh perspective.
