KMSKA LATE - Artist talk - Philip Aguirre y Otegui

Philip Aguirre believes in the universal power of art. For him, the search for beauty is a basic human need – as essential as water and bread. His work conveys the hope that beauty can help to reduce social inequality. His sculptures are therefore particularly well suited to public spaces.

The solo exhibition at the KMSKA offers an overview of his oeuvre, from the 1980s to the present day. For this exhibition, Aguirre has made a radical commitment to monumental sculptures that engage in dialogue with his smaller works. In this way, he plays a contrarian game with the museum as an oasis, as an aesthetic refuge in turbulent times.

As part of this exhibition, curator Annelien De Troij will be in conversation with the artist Philip Aguirre himself.
