KMSKA LATE - Artist talk - Stig De Block

Category:

Talk

Date:

3 December 2026 from 19:00 to 19:45
KMSKA is a place of tension and encounter, where Old and Modern Masters challenge one another and new voices find resonance. In that spirit, we present a special series of talks: LATE TALKS.

LATE TALKS focuses on promising artists. In an intimate setting, they discuss their practice, their motivations, and the role of art today. How do they relate to tradition? What traces have the Old and Modern Masters left in their work? And how do they translate that legacy into a contemporary visual language? LATE TALKS creates space for exchange and deeper exploration. Not detached lectures, but lively conversations in which ideas clash, perspectives shift, and new insights emerge. Here, you'll meet artists at a pivotal moment in their careers: driven, inquisitive, and engaged in dialogue with a rich artistic past.

With this series, KMSKA offers a platform to a new generation of artists and strengthens its ties to the contemporary arts scene. LATE TALKS bridges eras, practices, and people.

In this edition, Stig De Block joins us in conversation to mark the publication of his book East Los: an intimate portrait of East LA, the "Eastside of all Eastsides".

More about the artist

Stig De Block (b. 1990) is a Belgian fine-art photographer whose work explores identity, connectedness, and continuity within communities and subcultures. Through prolonged immersion, trust, and presence, he develops a nuanced visual language shaped by shared rituals and aesthetics at the intersection of reality and imagination. Using sculptural light, colour, and gesture, he creates narrative-driven images that foreground human connection, cultural memory, and resilience. His work has been exhibited at Paris Photo, Photo London, Les Rencontres d'Arles, and CNAC Lab Tokyo, among others.
