KMSKA LATE Live - Benjamin Sauzereau REMORQUE
Category:
Date:

An unusual blend of jazz and chamber music by one of the most versatile musicians on the Belgian jazz scene.
Brussels-based guitarist Benjamin Sauzereau is one of the most highly regarded musicians on the Belgian jazz scene, working across its entire spectrum, from elegant jazz to edgy improvisation. You may know him from projects including Les Chroniques de l’Inutile, Limite, Hendrik Lasure warm bad, Book of Air and Fur. Under the name REMORQUE, he presents his highly distinctive compositions in a variety of line-ups. A little like John Zorn does with his Masada compositions.
What they share is an ingenious exploration of composition, improvisation and arrangement. The pieces tend to be short yet vibrant, brimming with colour and atmosphere. At times lyrical and contemplative, at others frivolous, playful or slightly prickly. Each composition is a small, unique world in its own right, full of inventiveness, subtlety and space, performed by musicians who move effortlessly between classical music and improvisation.
In 2024, REMORQUE released its first album, UN, on W.E.R.F. Records. In 2025, the group embarked on a warmly received JazzLab tour across Flanders and Brussels, with their second full-length album, DEUX, in tow. Now they return with new music and a partly new line-up. Violinist Amèle Metlini and cellist Annemie Osborne feature in both sets at KMSKA, while guitarist Vitja Pauwels and clarinettist Yann Lecollaire take turns adding their distinctive sounds to the ensemble’s sonic palette.
★★★★ | “A chamber-jazz album full of adventurous sounds, original harmonies and unexpected melodies. Each of the album’s 14 tracks takes us by surprise.”

For a special evening at KMSKA in Antwerp, Benjamin Sauzereau presents two chapters from REMORQUE’s ever-expanding repertoire, on the same night!
REMORQUE II
Benjamin Sauzereau: guitar
Amèle Metlini: violin
Annemie Osborne: cello
Vitja Pauwels: pedal steel guitar
For this second chapter in the Remorque series, composer and guitarist Benjamin Sauzereau brings together several long-standing collaborators in a unique line-up. Each piece is a world unto itself: layered, refined and spacious, carried by the ensemble’s rich, acoustic sound.
Imagine a classical string quartet, then add the unexpected sonic range of a pedal steel guitar, the driving force of a propulsive groove, and an endless stream of euphoric, poetic associations.
Their album Deux was released last year on WERF Records:

A new chapter in the REMORQUE album series, released on WERF Records. This brand-new repertoire of compositions by Benjamin Sauzereau introduces the clarinet and delves even deeper into a powerful, refined and evocative chamber-music sound.
REMORQUE will tour Belgium in March and April 2027 to mark the release of the new album. This concert offers an exclusive preview of the forthcoming record.
