KMSKA LATE - Opening Expo Guy Vandebranden

To mark the centenary of Guy Vandenbranden’s birth (1926–2014), KMSKA presents a focused exhibition dedicated to one of Belgium’s leading representatives of Constructivism. The exhibition traces his artistic development from his early Expressionist work to the crisp geometric compositions that established him as a pioneer of geometric abstraction and an active figure in the post-war European avant-garde.

7.00 pm – Exhibition visit
Discover Vandenbranden’s artistic development and his ongoing dialogue with the international avant-garde. His work is presented alongside that of Belgian and European contemporaries, including Jef Verheyen, Lucio Fontana, Piero Manzoni and François Morellet.

Immerse yourself in Vandenbranden’s quest for a precise and balanced visual language in which colour, line, form and space come together. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Paul Klee, Piet Mondrian and Victor Vasarely, he developed a distinctive Constructivist vocabulary. His interest in industrial materials and modern architecture also played an important role in shaping his work.

The exhibition also highlights his involvement in artists’ groups such as Art Abstrait, Formes and the International Working Group for Constructivism. Although Vandenbranden was never officially part of the ZERO movement, his work closely resonates with the innovative ideas that shaped the European avant-garde of the 1950s and 1960s.

Guy Vandenbranden in the European Avant-Garde was created in collaboration with the Estate Guy Vandenbranden / Callewaert Vanlangendonck Gallery. To mark the centenary of his birth, an extensive survey of the artist’s oeuvre will also be published.
