KMSKA LATE - STEAL

Category:

Performance

Date:

5 February 2026 from 17:00 to 22:00
STEAL is an art installation custom-made for the KMSKA, allowing you, in a way, to look through the museum’s wall. Conceived and realized by Mathijs F Scheepers.

You follow Maja, who lost her daughter to her stepmother. She stands in front of Jean Fouquet’s painting Madonna in the museum, determined to steal her daughter back. What follows is a journey exploring what possession means, what loss leaves behind, and whether you can steal something that was once yours.

STEAL combines film, sound, and installation into a unique experience: what you see is real. What you hear makes you doubt.

STEAL is a SKaGeN production and is part of the 10-part DEKALOOG. More information at dekaloog.be

Mathijs F Scheepers

Mathijs F Scheepers has been working for 25 years at the intersection of reality and fiction. For SKaGeN, he created unique concepts in the Central Station and the Palace of Justice, giving the audience a completely new perspective, while he also developed groundbreaking blue-key productions for traditional theater venues, including La Merde and Hector Mann.

After the digital success of the Watchapp chatstories, with over 20,000 tickets sold, and his hybrid adaptation of Closer at the Toneelhuis, all his experiences now come together in the unique installation STEAL.

His work is strongly inspired by Dogma 95, breathing its rebellious freedom in exploring boundaries, both in content and form. His direction places the actors at the center as players, creates space for multilayering and poetry, and seeks intense conflict, but never without catharsis.

As an actor, Mathijs F Scheepers is a well-established figure in the Flemish film and television landscape and the beating heart of the theater company SKaGeN, which he co-founded in 2000. He is the director of, among others, The Art of Lying, Emmi & Leo, Imke, and now also STEAL.
