KMSKA LATE - Van Ostaijen, Pierrot & Harlekijn
Category:
Date:

What do Arnold Schönberg, James Ensor and a forgotten Flemish composer have in common? Pierrot and Harlequin.
Matthijs de Ridder and Isabel Voets (Dynamiek!) are dusting off August L. Baeyens’s Arlekijn (1924) and placing it alongside Arnold Schönberg’s world-famous Pierrot lunaire (1912). Together with the Brussels-based ensemble Het Collectief, they bring the two works into dialogue.
Through live music, storytelling and artworks from the KMSKA collection, visitors will discover surprising connections between visual art and music. A forgotten gem of Flemish musical heritage is brought back to life, while well-known artworks take on new meaning.
Dynamiek!
More than a century later, the modernist experiment continues to capture the imagination. Through their daring, creativity and drive for change, avant-garde artists posed fundamental questions that remain relevant today. Dynamiek!, a project of the Paul van Ostaijen Society developed in collaboration with numerous public and private partners, explores how these ideas and challenges continue to resonate in our time.
Het Collectief
Het Collectief is a Brussels-based chamber music ensemble with a core group of five musicians. Drawing on the tradition of the Second Viennese School, it explores twentieth-century music and contemporary repertoire. Through surprising crossovers and arrangements of historical music, the ensemble builds bridges between tradition and experimentation. It performs both in Belgium and internationally.
Performers: Het Collectief – Wibert Aerts (violin), Julien Hervé (clarinet), Thomas Dieltjens (piano), Toon Fret (flute), Martijn Vink (cello)
Lore Binon
Lore Binon is a versatile Belgian soprano whose repertoire spans opera, chamber music, early music and contemporary works. She has collaborated with, among others, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, the Freiburger Barockorchester, Ictus and Spectra Ensemble, and has performed works such as Schönberg’s Pierrot lunaire, Steve Reich’s Drumming and Claude Vivier’s Lonely Child. She is a co-founder of Revue Blanche and was awarded a KLARA Award for Young Talent.
