Step into a world where color is not only visible but becomes audible. Rainbow ties in thematically with Singing Red, an exhibition that shows how James Ensor, Rik Wouters, and Jules Schmalzigaug revolutionized painting with rich, unrestrained pigments. Their work revolves around more than just color: it’s about rhythm, intensity, and emotion—about color that, as it were, begins to sing.
That same idea forms the starting point for Rainbow. Where Ensor spoke of “unlikely chords of color” and Schmalzigaug dreamed of a “singing red,” this performance translates that idea into sound. The voices of the SWARA Vocal Ensemble function as pigments: they clash, blend, light up, and guide your perception. Just as with Wouters, vivid accents draw your attention and determine how you look—or in this case, listen.
In a space that is as much an installation as it is a performance space, a musical landscape unfolds in which composition, movement, and scenography reinforce one another. The music by Aftab Darvishi and the direction by Nazanin Fakoor do not build a classical narrative, but create an experience that develops layer by layer—like color on a canvas.
Rainbow invites you to experience what the artists of A Red that Sings have already understood: that color is not static, but moves, guides, and resonates. Here, that idea is given a voice.
