KMSKA LATE Talks – Bram Demunter in collaboration with Tim Van Laere Gallery

Category:

Talk

Date:

11 June 2026 from 19:00 to 19:45
KMSKA is a place of tension and encounter: where old and modern masters challenge one another and new voices find resonance. In that spirit, we present a special series of talks: LATE TALKS.

During LATE TALKS promising artists are in the spotlight. In an intimate setting, they discuss their practice, their motivations, and the role of art today. How do they relate to tradition? What traces do the Old and Modern Masters leave in their work? And how do they translate that legacy into a contemporary visual language? LATE TALKS creates space for exchange and deeper exploration. No detached lectures, but lively conversations where ideas clash, perspectives shift, and new insights emerge. Here you’ll meet artists at a turning point in their careers: passionate, inquisitive, and in dialogue with a rich past. With this series, KMSKA offers a platform to a new generation of artists and strengthens its connection to the contemporary art field. LATE TALKS bridges the gap between eras, between practices, and between people.

During this edition, curator Siska Baeck will be in conversation with Bram Demunter, on the occasion of his solo exhibition, which runs through July 4 at Tim Van Laere Gallery.

Bram Demunter (b. 1993) lives and works in Kortrijk, Belgium. His work explores us, humanity, and the place we occupy in the world; the mythologies we construct around ourselves; the stories and visual cultures that emerge from us; and the changes we bring about in nature and in our worldview. Demunter delves into our history and forges new connections that span from obscure tales, forgotten symbolism, Christian iconography, myths, and legends to contemporary events and marginal anecdotes from literature. In doing so, he not only looks back to the past but connects these aspects to our present and his own environment. Through this synthesis of past and present, he arrives at a wholly original, unique new visual language. With these elements, Demunter has developed a universe that belongs solely to him, where various stories drawn from his own investigations, collections, and fascinations take on new meaning.
