Guided tour - 'Macht van beelden'

1st to 6th year of secondary education, all types of schooling

The tour

What does an image actually tell us? If you create memes and scenarios based on details from an artwork, how many different stories can you come up with? Can you capture reality in a single image? And how unambiguous is its meaning? That depends on the lens through which we view it, right? Another interesting question: what image do you have of yourself? And what visual language do you use to express your own identity? How do you represent yourself visually?

During this tour, students experience the power of images. How an image can inform and inspire us, but also manipulate us? The group learns to look at the world and themselves differently, and more insightfully, through art. What do a 16th-century portrait and a contemporary selfie have in common? Students discover how the objects that surround us and the colors we wear reveal more about who we are and how we feel. How do they represent themselves visually? Students create an analog selfie, reflecting on status and self-image. An intense tour full of variety.
